Confirmation is a sacrament in the Catholic
Church that was instituted by Jesus Christ to give grace. But what does
that mean for you? It means Jesus is so in love with you He gave you a
sign here on earth to show you He loves you and wants to give you the
gifts to live a life full of His love.
This is an opportunity to learn more about your faith in Jesus
Christ, the Catholic Church, and to receive the Holy Spirit. Did I just
say receive the Holy Spirit? AMEN, yes I did. When you are confirmed you
are acknowledging that Jesus died for you and you want to give your life
back to Him through your Catholic faith. Taking responsibility
of your own faith is a choice you now make, Mom and Dad won't be forcing you to get out of bed to
go to church, you will have the desire in your heart to attend Mass all
on your own. Remember, this a new beginning in your walk with the Lord,
the Holy Spirit will guide you to make responsible decisions in life and
to always to rely on God, the Father.
You will fellowship with other Catholic teens in a small group, youth group,
mass, community service, retreats, and start a life-long journey with a
sponsor, someone you look up to as a Catholic role model. And have lots
of FUN!
I encourage you to pray about the sacrament of Confirmation and
whether you are ready to make the commitment to charge forth in your
faith and take ownership. Be open with your parents and let them know
how you feel and what you think about the Confirmation. Most
importantly, ask God for guidance in this time in your life, your life
depends on it.
